Electroless Nickel Plating
Electroless Nickel plating is ideal for the functional coating of metals and plastics. The properties of the coated layer range from chemical resistance, dimensional accuracy, excellent anti-friction behaviour and electrical conductivity, to outstanding hardness. Additionally, Electroless Nickel plating ensures a uniform layer formation true to the original contours of a component making it an ideal solution for the plating of even geometrically complex shapes with sharp edges and profiles, open cavities or bores.
Electroless Nickel plating’s wear and corrosion resistance depends on the phosphorous content of the deposited layer. This content can be increased or reduced depending on the plating solution’s composition and specific process conditions. The layer thickness also affects the coating's resistance: layers with a thickness in the 2 to 10 µm range are resistant to mild corrosion, those in the 5 to 10 µm range are resistant to mild wear loads. A higher level of protection is available with coating a thickness in the 10 to 25 µm range, while severe to very severe loads require thickness values ranging from 25 to 50 µm and over 50 µm respectively.
Electroless Nickel plating can coat almost any metal and plastic:
All low-alloy ferritic steels
Cast iron-based materials
Stainless steel
Non-ferrous metals
Aluminium alloys
Die-cast zinc
Titanium-based materials
Magnesium alloys
Sintered metal materials
LCP
Other metal and ceramic materials can also be coated – please contact if you would like us to process sample parts.
Aluminium oxidises in air: you need a reliable layer to protect the metal from the elements.
Use our skill and expertise to provide the precise depth of layer that you need.
Coating your plastic or metal component with Nickel will extend its life and add other valuable properties. This treatment is often used for advanced materials.
To avoiding Cadmium plating whilst achieving crucial corrosion and electrical properties; IVD is an attractive choice of treatment.
The Aerospace manufacturer's treatment of choice!
