About us ....
Acorn Surface Technology has over 75 years of history in Aluminium surface treatments. Originally trading as ACORN ANODISING in London from 1923, and developing a specialist Hard Anodising business, ACORN HARDAS, on the current site in Kirkby in Ashfield, near Nottingham, in 1974, the business has always had a reputation for high quality in both service and treatments.
In recent years the business has focussed on high performance and high specification processes, extending beyond the (still key) Hard Anodising processes to include IVD Aluminium coating and Electroless Nickel Plating among it's range of services. This has led to a close relationship with the Aerospace and Defence markets in particular and, as a consequence, a continual escalation of quality targets and performance.
In 2001 the business was acquired by the AALBERTS INDUSTRIES Group, a Dutch based multi-national Industrial group. Operating within the Group Material Technologies division, Acorn has the support of a network of over 50 specialist Surface and Heat treatment businesses across Europe with a wide range of processes and expertise to draw on which will drive the ongoing development of the company in the UK.
From 2004 to 2009 Acorn operated as a division of TTI GROUP LTD , another Aalberts Industries company, and a key Heat Treatment business servicing UK manufacturing from 7 sites across the country. This close relationship developed a shared drive for the highest levels of quality, performance and service and the two business combined to offer an integrated Surface Engineering and Heat Treatment solution for manufacturing companies throughout the UK. Solving technical problems with materials is our joint speciality.
Ongoing development of the business needs a new structure from 2010, with effect from 1st January ACORN SURFACE TECHNOLOGY LTD will be established as a stand alone company - still wholly owned by Aalberts Industries, and with a focus on developing the specialist surface engineering business in the UK. Existing Acorn customers may not notice any immediate changes - the current management and operations teams will continue to run the business providing the same high standards of quality and service, however the Group commitment to expand the range of processes, increase capacity and develop capability will provide increasing support for our existing and new customers in the battle to win new business and new markets.
