Coating Systems
Acorn Surface Technology can offer wet paint and lacquer coatings which meet most of the UK and American Military and Aerospace Standards. Depending upon the specification, the coating can be either air dried or force cured.
Prior to wet painting or lacquering the Aluminium will normally be chemically treated e.g. Chromic acid anodised to DEF STAN 03-24 or Chromate conversion coated to DEF STAN 03-18 or their equivalents.
After being pre-treated the component is coated with a primer, cured, and then it can be coated with any matt or gloss finish required by the customer. Components can be selectively painted or lacquered. This is achieved by masking off specified areas by using tapes, paints, or mechanical techniques.

Hard Anodising
On exposure to air, Aluminium will immediately form a stable oxide layer. This natural oxide film is, however, very thin, approximately 1/100th of a micron and provides little corrosion resistance un...
